I started teaching classes out of my studio in 2025. So far I have had 3 Cohorts of students and look forward to teaching classes seasonally each year moving forward. Right now the only class I offer is a 3-day mirror study self portrait intensive. It is a great jumping off point or check in for any creative at any point in their artistic journey. Whether you are well versed or new to self expression, this is an excellent way to give yourself some feedback on where you are, and inform you on new techniques and an open mind to approach upcoming projects. Mirror study started as a simple challenge to myself and became one of my most powerful learning tools. In this class I will share my approach in:

Learning by doing, painting with “no mistakes”, testing new mediums in a controlled setting, world building, making and breaking rules, and some very basic rendering, proportion and color theory. I will break down the very basics like setting up a paint palette, how to read the key on your paint tube, as well as show you a variety of layer building ideas and tools to open up your paints potential and nurture an environment where you can make confident marks and bold decisions.

I will provide everything you need to complete your self study. We will be working in a limited pallet, I will be teaching with professional quality acrylic paints and colored pencils. Feel free to bring anything you’d like to work with knowing that I will be teaching you with tools I am most familiar with.

Live demos, group discussion, one on one feedback, and independent work time in my studio.

By the end of our 3 days together you will leave the studio with your completed 9×12 Self Portrait.

Teaching Style:

I am primarily self taught as a painter and have rejected most traditional approaches. Learning under a lot of structure and rule did not resonate with me creatively.

I will not teach you “the correct way” to do anything. I will present things that work for me, share information that I have acquired over the years, and help you feel confident to experiment, play, and find what works for you.
